ARKANSAS

County offices across Arkansas working without computers during possible breach

Across Arkansas, many county government employees were working without computers on Wednesday after a Rogers-based information technology company told them to shut down computer servers because of a possible security breach. "They're telling us not to even turn them on, period," said Stephen Willis, the Newton County assessor in Jasper. "Nobody can pay taxes through the collector's office. Nobody can assess.


ILLINOIS

Buckley votes in favor of increasing property taxes for its ambulance service

Another decision voters in Buckley had to decide was whether or not to raise property taxes for its ambulance service. Voters in Buckley voted “Yes” on two separate measures that will help keep their community safe. The district will now get more tax money to pay for more ambulance employees and fire equipment. They're expecting about $45,000.


NEW YORK

LE: NYC has country's fourth largest hotel pipeline

At the close of the third quarter of 2022, the New York City market had a total of 102 hotels and 17,805 rooms in the construction pipeline, the fourth largest pipeline by rooms of any market in the U.S. (behind the Dallas market, with 174 hotels and 20,676 rooms, the Los Angeles market with 118 hotels and 19,062 rooms and the Atlanta market with 139 hotels and 17,843 rooms).


OKLAHOMA

Wind farm valuation judgement could impact schools

Canadian and Kingfisher Counties assessors lost their appeal last month against Kingfisher Wind LLC in a case that had originally determined Production Tax Credits (PTCs) were intangible property, and therefore, excluded from taxable valuation. This decision affects the dollars that school districts will receive from wind farm ad valorem taxation.

DCAD Has Been Hacked!

A FrontBurnervian who works in real estate alerted us to the fact that the site for the Dallas Central Appraisal District has been down for a couple of days. He said a call to their main number produced no explanation for the outage. Cheryl Jordan, the always helpful DCAD director of community relations, tells me that the organization has been hacked.
