Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi has thrown a haymaker punch at the Chicago Bears as they ponder whether to proceed with plans to build a stadium complex in Arlington Heights, moving to raise sixfold the property tax value of the land involved even before any construction occurs. The move is being appealed to the Cook County Board of Review, a three-person panel that can overrule Kaegi's decisions.

At the May 1 Henderson County Board of Commissioners meeting, Henderson County Manager John Mitchell presented the proposed 2024 county budget, recommending the biggest decrease in the property tax rate in the county's history, he said. Mitchell told the Board the proposed rate was 43.1 cents per $100 valuation, which is 13 cents less than the current rate (56.1 cents).
